HABESHA Black To Our Roots Program
The Black To Our Roots Educational Tour is a spiritual, cultural, and academic experience where youth of African descent learn about themselves. Selected participants in the Black To Our Roots program will spend one year learning about Africa life and culture through workshops, fieldtrips, fundraisers, and community service projects.
Black To Our Roots assist youth in recognizing and reclaiming their African identity through extensive research on African history and culture that they will be able to apply directly while on location in Africa. Black To Our Roots culminates with graduates spending several weeks exploring the beauty of Ghana, to gain first hand experience about its culture, history and rituals.
HABESHA, Inc. is planning the 7th Annual “Black To Our Roots” Educational Tour to Ghana and Ethiopia. Youth will be selected from an African History Essay Competition. The essay topic is “What Africa Means To Me.” We are currently accepting essay submissions for our next journey in the summer of 2011. We have branches in Atlanta, Washington, DC, New York, Baltimore, and St. Thomas, VI. For students interested who do not have a branch in their area, we also have an online group who conduct the program in their area independently and have the opportunity to travel with the other branches. Read the information below to learn how to become a part of the program.
